Does your work title feel limiting or liberating?

Does your work title feel limiting or liberating?

What we call ourselves matters. It creates an identity that can either limit or liberate our potential.

Before I was a 'website person', I was a therapist. It’s an identity that has always felt very true to me.

When we started moving countries and I became a stay-at-home-mum to little ones, I needed to find a way to make money from home, anywhere in the world, in unpredictable pockets of time.

I brushed up a couple creative skills I had in my back-pocket, and became a ‘copywriter and web designer’. For the first couple years of my business, I worked hard to earn those titles, to fit myself into this new identity.

I stuffed my inner therapist in a drawer, and looked to other web designers for the appropriate ‘dress code’ for my brand.

But since I am a therapist at heart, I couldn’t help but see my work through that lens. There was a lot I loved about my business, but ‘web designer’ didn't feel like the truest fit for me.

So I started trying on other titles, and eventually settled into ‘Brand Therapist’. This felt really good. It felt juicy and expansive. And it helped me move closer to the Fully Expressed version of me and my business.

Web design is still a huge part of what I do and love, but since owning my inner therapist, web design is simply the modality I use to achieve my bigger purpose - helping women feel fully expressed.

What do you call yourself? Does it feel limiting or liberating?

Yes, clarity matters. How it makes you feel matters too. There's a way to achieve both, and it's something I explore in my Brand Therapy process. Created for coaches & therapists, this uniquely holistic offering tends to both the inner & outer work of sharing our medicine with the world.
